mummification

Introduction:
Ancient Egyptian history spans how many centuries? 30
What did the people believe Pharaoh was? a living god, so they needed to keep him very happy.
How did they "achieve immortality"?preserve the body

Dead
What was embalming? Your dead body is collected and cleaned
Who did the embalming? The men who practice the art of embalming are highly respected,
What role did linen, your body, the priest, natron salt, canopic jars, tools, and oils play in the embalming process?
linen-Like most ancient Egyptians, you will have saved linen throughout your life to use as mummification bandages
body-
YOUR BODY
Your freshly scrubbed body is required, along with all the necessary priests and their assistants.
the priest- You will need a priest to act as chief embalmer. He should wear a mask of Anubis, god of embalming.
natron salt- This will be used to dry out your body once the organs have been removed.
canopic jars- Special containers are need to store your organs
tools- Various tools and surgical instruments will be needed to clean out your body and remove certain organs
oils- Perfumes and oils will make your skin smooth and sweet smelling

Organs Removed
Which organs were removed?liver, lungs, stomach and intestines
What did they do with them?stored in canopic jars

Get Stuffed
What does "Get Stuffed" refer to?Your skin is shrivelled and wrinkled and you look like a piece of old leather
What did they stuff you with?sawdust, rags and chaff.

Tomb Bound
What did they do to get your body ready for the tomb?
What was involved in bandaging the body?
What might be placed in your tomb if you were rich?

Coffin Etc.
Tell me about Ancient Egyptian coffins.they weigh alot, and usually decorated nicely with heiroglyphics, jewels, they put everything the want to be buried with in the tombs with them
What went in the coffins with the body?Finger and toe stalls,Amulets, portrait mask,
What went in the tomb with the coffin?pets, good reads, and regular supplies

Your funeral
What did an Ancient Egyptian funeral look like? The procession arrives at your tomb and your mummy is now prepared for the opening of the mouth ceremony. A priest touches your 'lips' with symbolic tools to restore your senses and allow your departed soul to return. Your mummy and tomb goods are now sealed inside the tomb.
Tell me about the processionYou will be buried on the western side of the river, where the sun sets.Your coffin is taken there by boat and is then placed on a sledge and pulled to your tomb. A priest leads a procession of mourners, followed by bearers carrying food offerings and all the objects you will need in the afterlife

Eternal rest
Tell me about tomb raiders. they robbed the tomb of any goods they wanted and could find.
What do they do and what do they want?
The tomb goods shown below are prized by the robbers, and can make them very rich. But they are risking their lives — the penalty for tomb robbing is torture and then slow death by impalement

brianne- the information was fun, the worst this was waiting for the liver to dry out, yuck!, its digusting. I dont understand why the do that. They can just let them rest.

harley-this was cool! i liked the information! it was interesting! i lelarned a lot form it!

The nile file

Nakht-Amun- i lived between 5000 and 2000 years ago. im an ordianry person.
at school; . Scribes taught their own sons, and sometimes larger groups. Temples and palaces ran and taught their own classes – they were making the scribes of the future. School work was written in ink on pieces of broken stone or pottery (ostraca), or on wooden boards that could be cleaned and used again. Rich children started school when they were between five and ten years old. Older pupils punished younger ones for not doing their lessons. Very bad boys had their legs tied together to stop them running away. Children were also beaten.

at home;
My village was near the Valley of the Kings at Deir el-Medina. It was on a small hill so that we were above the annual Nile flood. Modern Egypt has dams so the Nile does not flood anymore. These houses are built from bricks but mine was made from river mud. Mud does not last so there are no houses left from my time. You know much more about ancient Egyptian pyramids and temples because they were made of stone and lasted longer
